Uralkali could produce 11.3-11.8 mln tonnes of potash in 2012
MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Uralkali could produce between 11.3 and 11.8 million tonnes of potash in 2012, Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner said during a telephone conference on Wednesday.
He had previously predicted that the company would produce 12.5 million tonnes of potash in 2012. At the same time, he said on Wednesday that this is the maximum amount that Uralkali's capacity allows it to produce.
The company plans to produce around 10.8-11 million tonnes of potash for 2011.
World demand for potash could total 59-60 million tonnes in 2012, exceeding 2011 world consumption by 1-2 million tonnes. Thus, Uralkali is unlikely to be able to utilize all of its additional production capacity for an additional 1.5 million tonnes of potash, Baumgertner said.
