Fair decisions must be made on all complaints of violations in Duma elections - Medvedev
GORKI, Moscow region. Dec 13 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered all complaints concerning the voting in the recent elections to the State Duma to be carefully considered.
While meeting on Friday with the leaders of the parliamentary parties that have qualified for the Duma, Medvedev said the elections commissions of all levels and relevant courts "are obliged to carefully consider all complaints and lawsuits and make fair decisions where real irregularities are uncovered."
The Central Elections Commission (CEC) received 117 complaints on the election day alone, Medvedev said.
The president congratulated United Russia on winning a majority in the past elections to the parliament and the opposition on significantly increasing its presence in the State Duma.
"This is a new situation. Not everyone was happy about the way the people expressed their will, but it can't be otherwise," Medvedev said.
