Belarus expects Russia to help it join WTO
MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - Belarus is hoping for Russia's assistance in the negotiations on accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Sergei Sidorsky, who represents Belarus in the Eurasian Economic Commission collegium, said.
"We have now prepared and signed a memorandum under which Russia will provide maximum assistance to Belarus in the WTO talks, This work will be conducted actively both by Belarus and by its Russian colleagues in the nearest future," Sidorsky, who is former prime minister of Belarus, told Interfax.
"In-depth work will be conducted with help from our Russian colleagues, which will bring Belarus closer to entering the WTO in a short period of time," Sidorsky said.
Responding to a question as to what the Eurasian Economic Union is, Sidorsky said the organization "is an absolutely new integration of countries which have stated their readiness for maximal integration for the development of their economies. It's a new level of interstate formation," he said.
"We are creating a totally new economic entity, which will have considerable influence in the export potential and the development of cooperation with regard for the interests of all three countries," Sidorsky said.
