Work resumes at OzenMunayGas - Kazakh Deputy PM

ASTANA. Dec 20 (Interfax) - Work at KazMunayGas Exploration Production's production branch, OzenMunayGas, has resumed, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Umirzak Shukeyev said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

"As of today, work at the production branch OzenMunayGas has resumed, and the security of the production facilities and personnel has been ensured," he said.

Over 80% of the company's workers came to work today. "Yesterday it was only 37%. This process will be monitored constantly," Shukeyev said.

As reported, last Friday massive unrest and riots took hold of Zhanaozen, the administrative center of Kazakhstan's Mangistau region. According to the Kazakh Interior Ministry, the instigators of the riots were oil company workers who had previously been dismissed from their jobs. OzenMunayGas workers, who started to strike back at the end of May in demand of higher wages, took part in the riots.

KazMunayGas Exploration Production is a subsidiary structure of Kazakh National Company KazMunayGas. The company is part of a trio of oil production leaders in Kazakhstan. Its ordinary shares are listed on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange, and its GDR (global depositary receipts) are listed on the London Stock Exchange.
