U.S., Russia can work together in gas, oil product market - State Dept

LONDON. Dec 21 (Interfax) - The United States and Russia can work together not just in geological exploration but in other areas, such as the gas and petroleum product market, Richard Morningstar, the U.S. State Department's Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, told Interfax in an interview.

The Rosneft-ExxonMobil deal will have a positive impact on Russian-American relations, he said.

He said further interaction was needed with Russian colleagues with regard investment issues. The projects that Exxon will work on require considerable investment and hi-technology, where companies such as Exxon can help, he added."

Morningstar said there were other areas where investment could be possible, such as gas supply for energy generating capacity and cooperation in the petroleum product market.

Russia is also expected to invest in projects in the United States and North America.

ExxonMobil, which is Rosneft's partner for the development of offshore fields in the Kara Sea, could build an LNG plant if large gas reserves are discovered in the Vostochno-Prinovozemelskiye sections, Glenn Waller, ExxonMobil's Russia chief, has said.
