Magnit opens 200 drogerie stores, meets annual plan

MOSCOW. Dec 23 (Interfax) - Russian retailer Magnit has opened 200 drogerie (cosmetics) stores, therefore meeting its 2011 plan, the company said in a statement.

The statement said that the 200th Magnit Kosmetik store was opened in the Volgograd Region. The store is located on the retailer's own territory. It has 340 square meters in retail floorspace and offers around 7,500 namebrand products.

It was earlier reported that the first experimental Magnit drogerie store was opened in December 2010. The store's main assortment in this format is comprised of non-foodstuffs: hygienic products, household chemical products, cosmetics, and perfumes.

Magnit plans to double its total number of drogerie stores in 2012 if the program for developing this format suits the company, Magnit's general director, Sergei Galitsky, earlier said.

Magnit is the leading retailer on the Russian market in terms of total stores. As of the end of November, the chain had over 5,000 stores (5,023 stores in total, including 4,783 neighborhood stores, 80 hypermarkets, and 160 cosmetics stores).

During January-November 2011, Magnit opened 968 stores. The retailer's sales revenue for January-November went up by 43.23% year-on-year to 297.1 billion rubles.
