Ukraine, Russia to hold next round of gas talks on Jan 15, 2012 - Ukrainian ministry
KYIV. Dec 23 (Interfax) - Ukraine and Russia will hold the next round of talks on gas supply on January 15, 2012, the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Ministry reported on Friday evening.
Ukrainian Energy Minister "Yury Boiko and [Gazprom CEO] Alexei Miller summed up outcomes of the negotiating process on gas issues at a meeting. The parties shared the view that the negotiations they have held in 2011 were positive and constructive in nature and that the next round of the negotiations, which will take place on January 15, 2012, has good prospects," the ministry said.
It was reported earlier that the parties were recently quite optimistic about the way negotiations on revising the terms and conditions of Russian-Ukrainian gas cooperation were proceeding. However, Gazprom made it clear on December 12 that, despite expectations, a new contract with Ukraine would not be signed in December.
Ukraine and Russia are discussing the volume of gas pumped through Ukraine, prices for gas itself and its transportation, and possible privatization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
