Natural gas deliveries to Armenia resume
YEREVAN. Dec 26 (Interfax) - Natural gas deliveries to Armenia, which were halted on December 22 due to emergency maintenance work on the gas pipeline Kazakh-Saguramo, resumed at 9:26 a.m. local time on December 26, ArmRosGazprom said in a statement.
The disruption in deliveries did not cause a reduction in the market for gas consumption in Armenia, since the country's gas distribution network utilized gas from the Abovyan gas storage facility throughout the period.
ArmRosGazprom is Armenia's only gas supplier. OJSC Gazprom owns 80% of ArmRosGazprom, and the Armenian governments owns the other 20%.
Most of Armenia's gas supply passes from Russia through Georgia. It also gets gas from Iran in exchange for electricity.
The Kazakh-Saguramo gas pipeline is a section of the main gas pipeline North Caucasus - Trans Caucasus, which was built in the 1970s and delivers Russian natural gas to Georgia and Armenia. In exchange for transiting Russian gas to Armenia, Georgia receives 10% of the total volume of those gas supplies.
