Dollar grows on MICEX on Wednesday afternoon

MOSCOW. Jan 4 (Interfax) - The U.S. dollar rose on MICEX by the end of the Wednesday trading, making up for a slide in the first part of the day after the moods on global markets worsened.

The ruble rate against the bicurrency basket ($0.55 and EUR 0.45) changed slightly.

The dollar ended the MICEX trading day on Wednesday at 31.78 rubles/$1, gaining 6.5 kopecks from Tuesday close. In the course of the trading, the dollar dipped to 31.5 rubles/$1 at one moment, but then started growing in the afternoon.

The euro closed at 41.215 rubles/EUR1, which is 12.35 kopecks down against Tuesday. In the course of the trading, the euro once reached the level of 41.39 rubles/EUR1.

The bicurrency basket lost 2 kopecks from Tuesday and closed at 36.03 rubles.

The average weighted dollar rate was down 25.52 kopecks from Tuesday at 31.6663 rubles/$1 in MICEX Today and down 9.46 kopecks at 31.7216 rubles/$1 in Tomorrow deals. Trading combined on the day to $640.823 million, with $21.446 million in Today and $619.377 million in Tomorrow trades.

The average weighted euro rate slid 21.15 kopecks to 41.2954 rubles/EUR1 in Today and 10.54 kopecks to 41.3068 rubles/EUR1 in Tomorrow trades. Trading combined to EUR10.27 million, with EUR 1.583 million in Today and EUR8.687 million in Tomorrow deals.

The rate on the direct REPO morning auction was 5.26% per annum, with banks raising nearly 49 billion rubles. On Tuesday, banks raised slightly over 43 billion rubles at the same rate.
