Ruble up versus dollar, euro
MOSCOW. Jan 6 (Interfax) - The Russian ruble gained some ground against the dollar and rose substantially against the euro and against the dual currency basket ($0.55 and EUR0.45) on MICEX on Friday as Russian stocks went up and oil prices stayed high.
The dollar ended the MICEX trading day at 31.99 rubles/$1, having lost 3 kopecks since Thursday. The euro lost 34.75 kopecks, closing at 40.585 rubles/EUR1.
The dual currency basket rose to 36.2 rubles at the start of Friday's trade but then began to roll down and closed at 35.86 rubles, 17 kopecks down from Thursday.
Since the start of the first trading week of 2012, the dollar has gone down 15.75 kopecks and the euro has lost 1.1525 rubles. The basket has dropped by 60 kopecks in this period.
The average weighted dollar rate was up 27.31 kopecks from Thursday at 32.1055 rubles/$1 in MICEX Today deals and up 8.54 kopecks at 31.9815 rubles/$1 in Tomorrow deals. Trading combined on MICEX on Friday to $441.8 million, with $26.3 million in Today and $415.5 million in Tomorrow deals.
The average weighted euro rate fell by 2.01 kopecks to 40.9977 rubles/EUR1 in Today and sank by 13.13 kopecks to 40.9083 rubles/EUR1 in Tomorrow trades. Trading combined on MICEX to EUR31 million, with EUR2.8 million in Today and EUR28.2 million in Tomorrow deals.
The overnight MosPrime rate was between 3% and 3.5% per annum on Friday, with the market showing relatively low activity.
