Subway to open 210 outlets in Russia in 2012
MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - Subway Russia, the Russian franchisee of the U.S. sandwich chain Subway, plans to open 210 outlets in Russia in 2012, the company said in a press release.
Subway in Russia expanded with 155 more outlets in 2011, almost twice as many as in 2010. The company attributes the expansion to quick growth in Russia's fast food market, increasing interest in franchise buying.
More outlets are opening throughout all Russia's regions, except the Far East. The largest number of new outlets opened in Moscow with 65. There were 16 new outlets in St. Petersburg, 17 in Leningrad region and 14 in Chelyabinsk and the region.
The chain had 322 Russian outlets at the end of 2011.
Subway first opened in Russia in 1994 and the franchise program was launched in 2004.
Subway was founded in 1965. The chain currently operates in 98 countries and consists of nearly 36,000 outlets.
