Approaches to power grid connections should also apply to other natural monopolies - Medvedev

GORKY. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Basic decisions on the tariff policy for natural monopolies need to be adopted both for the medium- and long-term perspective, and the approaches that have proven successful in dealing with connections to power grids should apply to other natural monopolies, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at a modernization commission meeting on Tuesday.

At the moment, rules are already operating on a legal level, which have resulted in a 50% decrease in the payment for connecting to power grids. In addition, unreasonably high profits for sales organizations have been limited, and the contract terms for connections have been regulated, Medvedev said.

Similar approaches need to be used in dealing with other monopolies, he said.
