Cargo turnover in Russia up 3.4% in 2011 - Rosstat

MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - Russian transport increased cargo turnover 3.4% last year to 4.914 trillion tonne/kilometers, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported on Thursday.

Turnover by rail increased 5.7% to 2.126 trillion tonne/km, by roadway by 11.8% to 222.8 billion tonne/km, but internal waterway by 13% to 61 billion tonne/km, by air by 4.5% to 4.9 billion tonne/km, and by pipeline by 1.7% to 2.421 trillion tonne/km.

Turnover by sea transport contracted 22.8% to 77.5 billion tonne/km.

Rosstat said that cargo turnover increased 4.7% to 433.9 billion tonne/km in December: 12.2% by rail to 188.1 billion tonne/km, 11.3% by roadway to 21.3 billion tonne/km, 24.9% by internal waterway to 0.8 billion tonne/km, 6.4% by air to 8.3 billion tonne/km, and 8.7% by sea to 8.3 billion tonne/km.

On the other hand, pipeline transport decreased 1.9% last month to 215 billion tonne/km.
