Russian retail turnover expands 7.2% in 2011

MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - Retail trade turnover in Russia grew 7.2% in 2011 to 19.075 trillion rubles, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported.

In December alone, retail trade turnover grew 9.5% to 2.043 trillion rubles, the highest growth rate for the whole year. In Q4 2011, turnover grew 9.1% to 5.433 trillion rubles.

In 2010, Russia's retail trade turnover grew 6.3% - 6.9% in December 2010 alone and 7.4% in Q4 2010.

Turnover of food products, including beverages and tobacco, increased 3.6% in 2011 to 9.121 trillion rubles, while that of non-food goods grew 10.7% to 9.954 trillion rubles.

In Q4 2011, turnover of food products was up 7.1%, and in December - 7.8%. Non-food product turnover grew 10.0% in Q4 2011 and 11.1% in December.

Last year, trade organizations and individual entrepreneurs operating outside the market accounted for 88.5% of retail trade turnover. Markets and fairs accounted for 11.5% of turnover (in 2010, 87.5% and 12.%, respectively).
