Prokhorov hopes to get 15-20% in presidential elections
NOVOSIBIRSK. Jan 27 (Interfax) - Presidential candidate Mikhail Prokhorov is hoping to get up to 20% of the votes in the March presidential elections.
"I think the realistic figure 15-20%," he told reporters in Novosibirsk.
Prokhorov believes the probability of a second round of the presidential elections is very high in Russia. "There are five people in this race: Putin, the old men from the Kremlin, and me. Therefore, the main task is to make it to the second round, in some sense to become the main anti-Putin guy," Prokhorov said.
Prokhorov also said he does not believe sociologists, who are predicting Putin's victory in the second round. "I don't believe all those VTsIOMs and the Public Opinion Foundations. They are trying to convince everyone that everything will be decided in the second round," Prokhorov said, adding that a public opinion service created by his election headquarters had done a study that showed that there would be a second round if the elections were conducted now.
Prokhorov reiterated that one of main things now is to ensure fair elections. "We should cover all polling stations. I am prepared to provide more people as monitors," he said.
When asked by journalists if he may stop fighting for the presidential post is he makes it to the second round, Prokhorov said: "Don't even think about it."
