Lavrov: Iran's decision to stop oil deliveries to EU is reply to sanctions

AUCKLAND. Jan 30 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov believes that Iran's decision to give up oil deliveries to the European Union is simply a response to EU sanctions that will lead to nothing good.

"As far as I understand Iran made its announcement in reply to the EU decision to gradually stop purchases of Iranian oil," he said at a Monday press conference of in Auckland.

"Here once again we see confirmation of the fact that any action prompts counteraction. This will lead to nothing good," Lavrov said.

Lavrov noted that Moscow finds the sanctions against Iran counterproductive. "Russia consistently advocates the stance that in the overwhelming majority of cases sanctions don't work, moreover, they are counterproductive," he said.
