China's investment in electricity projects dips in 2011

Beijing. January 30. INTERFAX-CHINA - China's investment on electricity projects dipped 0.32 percent on an annualized basis to RMB 739.3 billion ($116.74 billion) last year, the National Energy Administration (NEA) said Jan. 30.

Investment in power supply projects last year amounted to RMB 371.2 billion ($58.61 billion), roughly 50.2 percent of the total and down 6.50 percent from 2010, according to the announcement.

The NEA attributed the decline to a smaller number of thermal power and wind power construction projects. Thermal power investment slumped 26.1 percent from a year earlier to RMB 105.4 billion ($16.64 billion) while wind power investment fell 20 percent to RMB 82.9 billion ($13.09 billion).

Investment in hydropower and nuclear power plants, meanwhile, grew 14.8 percent and 14.2 percent, respectively, year-on-year in 2011. Power grid construction investment, moreover, increased 6.79 percent over the same period to RMB 368.2 billion ($58.14 billion).
