Putin proposes that ministries consider extending agro-sector's tax break on profit

TAMBOV. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin believes it would be possible to discuss extending the tax break on profits for agricultural enterprises. This break should be revoked as of 2013.

"In regards to the profit tax, it is possible to think of extending this regime. I request that the Finance and Economic Development Ministries consider this," Putin said in Tambov on Tuesday at a meeting on the development of the livestock sector.

Putin asked that this issue also be discussed with the Agricultural Ministry.

He also said, "bearing in mind WTO accession, the burden from imports, whatever the appearances, will intensify."

"This will affect a portion of enterprises, which still aren't modernized. Even though it doesn't sound nice, we don't have the goal today of abandoning inefficient production," Putin said.

However, Putin said "this process should be as gentle as possible", adding: "I agree that instruments for softening the move to this very necessary modernization should be considered".
