Expanding Rosselkhoznadzor's authorities should be considered - Putin

TAMBOV. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin believes it would be possible to expand the authorities of Russia's agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor.

"We are now in discussions for passing on various functions to the regional level. But if the sector believes it necessary to do the opposite and concentrate [Rosselkhoznadzor's] power, expanding this federal service's authority could be considered in a first stage," Putin said in Tambov at meeting on the development of the livestock sector.

"After all, if there is swine fever it will be the same everywhere and not according to region," Putin said.

Putin also said "it is necessary to think about how to expand the federal service's authority in such a way so that the current system isn't destroyed but made more united."
