Kazakhstan increases gas output 6% in 2011, transit up 18%
ASTANA. Feb 2 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan produced 39.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in 2011, the country's Oil and Gas Minister Sauat Mynbayev said at a ministerial meeting in Astana on Thursday.
"According to operational results, gas output in the country came to 39.5 bcm, up 6% from 2010. A total of 2,146.9 tonnes of liquefied natural gas was produced (down 4% from 2010)," he said.
According to Mynbayev, total domestic gas consumption in 2011 reached 10.2 bcm (up 13%). Total exports of gas came to 8.1 bcm (down 11%).
"Transit of gas through the country in 2011 came to 96.9 bcm, up 18.1% from 2010," Mynbayev.
The Kazakh government earlier told Interfax that gas output in 2011 came to 39.5346 bcm, up 5.7% from the previous year.
