Over 90 miners evacuated from ArcelorMittal mine in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. Feb 3 (Interfax) - An accident has occurred in the ventilation system at the Shakhtinsaya mine, part of the coal department of OJSC ArceloMittal Temirtau in Karaganda region, Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh Emergency Situations Ministry reported that the accident occurred in the ventilation system in the early hours of Friday.

"91 people have been evacuated. There are no casualties," the press release said.

Work at the mine has been stopped. There are 65 people and 16 pieces of machinery involved in dealing with the accident, the release said.

Arcelormittal Temirtau is part of international steel concern ArcelorMittal and is the biggest company in Kazakhstan's mining and metallurgical sector. It includes a metallurgical combine in Temirtau; 8 coal mines in Karaganda region and 4 iron ore deposits in Karaganda, Akmola and Kustanai regions.
