INSOR head thinks Medvedev should be vice-president instead of premier

MOSCOW. Feb 6 (Interfax) - Institute of Contemporary Development (INSOR) Director Igor Yurgens thinks that Russia should institute the position of vice-president in the case of Vladimir Putin's election victory and Dmitry Medvedev should take it.

"We, the supporters, should call for restoring the position of the Russian vice-president to supervise the reform of the parliament and the judiciary, the same as it happens in the United States [Joseph Biden is in charge of such issues]. I think it would be counterproductive for Dmitry Medvedev to be the premier under President Putin," he said as cited by the newspaper Izvestia on Monday.

The newspaper said that Yurgens was a member of the Committee of Medvedev Supporters.

Medvedev, who has a degree in law, will fit the position of the chief of state's representative to the legislative authorities, he noted.

"V. Putin said that economic and political affairs would develop within the stability paradigm. In this paradigm, Medvedev will be lost at some point, and impressive and big personalities already appointed as vice-premiers - Dmitry Rogozin and Vladislav Surkov - will outdo him. Clearly, Igor Sechin will stay in control of energy issues," Yurgens said.
