Hyundai nearly doubles sales in Jan as new plant opens in St. Petersburg
MOSCOW. Feb 7 (Interfax) - Hyundai Motor CIS sold 10,208 new cars in Russia in January 2012, including cars produced in St. Petersburg, nearly double the number of sales in January 2011, the company reported.
In January 20111, before the St. Petersburg plant was opened to assemble Hyundai Solaris cars, the company sold just 5,358 new cars in Russia.
The most popular model was the Hyundai Solaris, which is the most popular foreign car on the domestic market. Sales of the Solaris in January 2012 reached 7,172.
The second most popular was the Crossover ix35, with sales in January reaching 1,397.
The Santa Fe was the third most popular with sales of 549.
The Getz saw the most sales in January 2011 at 1,412, but this model is no longer produced.
