Gas transit through Ukraine to Europe down almost 12% in Jan
KYIV. Feb 7 (Interfax) - The amount of natural gas transiting Ukraine and bound for Europe decreased 11.93%, or by 1.247 billion cubic meters (bcm), year-on-year to 9.208 bcm in January.
The press service to Ukrainian gas-transport company Ukrtransgaz, a subsidiary of national oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy, said that January gas transit to Western Europe was down 12.2% (by 1.226 bcm) at 8.823 bcm, and transit to countries in the CIS was down 5.19% (by 21.13 million cubic meters (mcm)) at 385.71 mcm.
"During this period, the transportation of natural gas in to countries in Europe was performed in accordance with their orders, and the reduction in transportation volume in January for consumers is explained by mild weather conditions [in the early part of the month]," the company said.
