Ekho Moskvy journalists initiate changes to radio station's charter - communique

MOSCOW. Feb 14 (Interfax) - The journalists and shareholders of radio station Ekho Moskvy have expressed surprise about the decision to replace the board of directors and initiated changes to the radio station's charter.

"We regret that two independent directors, Alexander Makovsky and Yevgeny Yasin, who have helped Ekho Moksvy develop for 11 years, have had to leave the board," Ekho Moskvy said in a communique released on Tuesday.

The authors of the document reiterate that the radio station's journalists and shareholders consider "their dismissal from the board of directors unfair."

"We intend to initiative changes to the radio station's charter. We intend to create an observer (public) council headed by Makovsky and Yasin so that they can continue working on Ekho Moskvy's development," the document says.

The Ekho Moskvy journalists said Gazprom-Media, which holds a controlling stake in Ekho Moskvy (66% of voting shares) "demanded the convocation of a shareholders' meeting to discuss early termination of the powers of the current board of directors of Ekho Moskvy and the election of a new board of directors in full accordance with the Russian legislation on December 30, 2011."

"The journalists and shareholders of Ekho Moskvy (34% of the voting shares) are surprised by this decision. The annual meeting, where the new board of directors was to be elected, was scheduled to take place in June and this haste requires an explanation," the document says.
