Inter RAO ups electricity sales in Baltics by almost 50% in 2011
VILNIUS. Feb 15 (Interfax) - Inter RAO Lietuva, which represents Russian energy company Inter RAO UES in the Baltic States, increased electricity sales 46.3% to 7.9 billion kWh in 2011, the company said in a press release.
Electricity sales in Lithuania last year totaled 6.2 billion kWh, including around 2 billion kWh through the exchange. In Latvia, sales came to 1.5 billion kWh, and in Estonia - 200 million kWh.
In Russia, around 5.5 billion kWh of electricity were purchased for resale. On the Lithuanian exchange, roughly 2.2 billion kWh were purchased for resale. Purchases were also made in Latvia, Belarus and Estonia.
"The most significant influence on sales growth proved to be the launch of trade on the Scandinavian electricity exchange Nord Pool Spot in the Estonian price zone and sales growth in Latvia," Inter RAO Lietuva's Commercial Director Vidas Cebatariunas is quoted as saying in the press release.
The company plans to further expand retail electricity trade and invest in developing renewable energy, he added.
Inter RAO's Finnish subsidiary RAO Nordic Oy owns 51% of Inter RAO Lietuva, and Lithuanian investment company Scaent Baltic owns 49%.
