Ukraine's industrial output up 2% in January
KYIV. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Ukraine's industrial output grew 2% year-on-year in January, Ukraine's State Statistics Service said.
Compared to December of last year, industrial output fell 12.7%, which is a traditional seasonal decrease.
Industrial output was highest in machine building, up 11.7%, particularly in transport means and equipment (26%). Timber processing grew 3.5%; production in the extractive industries and utilities distribution was up 3.4%; and chemicals and petrochemicals output rose 1.9%.
Meanwhile, the State Statistics Service noted a 12.1% drop in light industry; a 5.2% decrease in pulp and paper production and publishing activities; a 3.5% decline in other non-metal mineral production (building materials); a 2.2% fall in coke and oil refining products; a 1.9% reduction in food production; and a 1.6% drop in metallurgical production.
Ukraine's industrial output grew 7.3% last year, compared to 11.2% in 2010.
