Commission of Boguchany and Taishet Smelters in 2013 might compensate for decrease in RusAl's output
MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - UC RusAl has not ruled out a decrease in its aluminum production this year but hopes to compensate for this fully in 2013 with the commission of the Taishet and Boguchany smelters in 2013, the company's director for international sales, Steve Hodgson, told journalists at the roundtable meeting "New Approaches to Organizing Aluminum Alloy Production at RusAl Smelters".
He said that the company has already carried out an analysis, in which it evaluated the feasibility of utilizing capacity.
"Some capacity might be closed following the results of this analysis. There might be a short-term decrease in the company's total output in 2012 but this will be compensated in 2013 with more economically feasible production at the Taishet and Boguchany Aluminum Smelters," he said.
RusAl's general director, Oleg Deripaska, said at the end of January that the company might reduce its aluminum output by 6% by the middle of 2013.
RusAl produced 4.123 million tonnes of aluminum for 2011. Total planned capacity at the Taishet and Boguchany Aluminum Smelters will come to 1.4 million tonnes a year.
