Russia ups agriculture output 2.5% in Jan
MOSCOW. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Russian agriculture output (from all types of farms) increased 2.5% year-on-year in January 2012 to 94.1 billion rubles, the Russian Statistics Service reported Friday.
Production of livestock and poultry for slaughter (live weight) increased 6.5% to 0.8 million tonnes. Milk production went up 3.7% to 2 million tonnes and egg output grew 2.3% to 3.4 billion eggs.
Livestock and poultry for slaughter production slumped 47.4% from December 2011 and milk production was down 8.5%, but egg production increased 4.2%.
The statistics service said farms of all categories had 20.1 million head of cattle at the end of January 2012, up 0.5% on the date in 2011, including 9 million cows, up 1.4%. The number of pigs increased 0.7% to 17.5 million, sheep and goats were up by 4.1% to 22.6 million and poultry was up 6.8% to 479.8 million.
Household farms had 46.1% of the cattle, 29.6% of the pigs and 50% of the sheep and goats. At the end of January 2011, the figures were 46.4%, 32.6% and 51.8%, respectively.
The statistics service reported that by February 2012, the supply of feed per head of cattle was up 32.8% on the same period of 2011.
