Russian inflation higher than all other G8 countries in 2011

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Despite Russia's record low inflation of 6.1% in 2011, the country continues to demonstrate the highest inflation among G8 countries, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said in a report comparing Russia's and other countries' economic figures.

Among the G8 countries (Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, Russia, the U.S., France and Japan), the highest inflation (excluding Russia) was observed in Great Britain last year, at 4.2%. Italy had inflation of 3.3%, the U.S. saw 3% inflation, France had 2.5%, Canada had 2.3% and Germany had 2.1%. Meanwhile, Japan experienced deflation of 0.2%.

Among BRIC countries, India and Brazil had the highest inflation, at 6.5% each. China had inflation at 4.1%.

GDP growth in G8 and BRIC countries was highest in China, at 9.2%, followed by India, at 7.4%.

Russia saw its GDP up 4.3% last year. Germany had GDP growth of 3%, Brazil had 2.9%, Canada had 2.3%, the U.S. had 1.7%, France had 1.6%, Great Britain had 0.9% and Italy had 0.5%. Japan's GDP, however, was down 0.9%.
