Naftogaz blames Russia for decrease in February gas supplies to Europe

KYIV. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Ukraine's national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy has not taken a single cubic meter of Gazprom's natural gas transited to Europe since the beginning of 2012, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

In February, Naftogaz notified Gazprom as per the contract about a possibility to supply additional gas to Europe from the Ukrainian gas storage facilities, the company said.

"Had Russia asked us, we would have been able to help European consumers in the situation over the critical reduction in gas supplies, as we did to Turkey," Naftogaz' deputy chief executive Vadim Chuprun was quoted as saying.

The current contract for natural gas supplies between Naftogaz and Gazprom registers quarterly quantities of natural gas supplies to Ukraine and not its daily consumption quantity, the press release said.
