Yanukovych to decide Poroshenko's appointment shortly

DNEPROPETROVSK. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has promised to decide soon on the appointment of Petro Poroshenko to the post of minister of economic development and trade.

"A decision on Poroshenko will be made shortly," he told reporters in Dnepropetrovsk on Friday.

Regions Party leader Oleksandr Yefremov reported on Thursday Poroshenko's appointment as Ukraine's economic development and trade minister.

Later, Rada member Andriy Shkil of the BYT-Batkivschyna faction said that Poroshenko had refused the offer.According to an Interfax source, Poroshenko hasn't given his consent to this appointment and talks on the matter continue.

Businessman and politician Poroshenko has headed the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) since 2007. He served as foreign minister from October 2009 until March 2011.
