Ukraine's Astelit reduces net losses 25% in 2011

KYIV. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Kyiv-based cellular provider LLC Astelit reduced its net losses for 2011 by 24.7% to 603.5 million hryvni (7.987 hryvni/$1 on February 24, 2012), the company said in a report.

The operator's sales revenue last year increased by 9.2% to 2.939 billion hryvni.

The telecom's capex went down by 1.7% to 520 million hryvni.

The company's total active subscriber base came to 7 million clients at the end of 2011, up 14.8%. Average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) increased by 19.7% to 37.49 hryvni. Average monthly minutes of use per client increased by 22% to 198 minutes last year.

The company's general director, Alexander Barinov, told journalists that the positive results for 2011 have been partially driven by an increase in the provider's subscriber base in regions (Astelit's subscriber base in Ukraine's eastern regions increased by 34%, western regions - 29% and central regions - 8%), as well as a boost in revenues from mobile internet and additional services of 26%. In addition, revenue from roaming services went up by 58%.

LLC Astelit has had operations on Ukraine's cellular market since the start of 2005. The sole owner in the company is Euroasia Telecommunications Holdings B.V., in which Turkcell holds 55% and Rinat Akhmetov's OJSC System Capital Management (SCM, based in Donetsk) owns 45%.
