Rosneft to check South Black Sea section for magnetic anomalies by May 2013

MOSCOW. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Rosneft will check the South Black Sea section, which contains the Shatsky Ridge and is adjacent to another of the company's properties, the West Black Sea section, for magnetic anomalies by May 2013.

Rosneft planned to develop the West Black Sea section with Chevron, but magnetic anomalies were found to indicate volcanic formations in the rock. Rosneft later acknowledged that Chevron was not planning to go ahead with the project.

Rosneft will interpret 3,490 meters of gravity-metric and magnetometric data acquired between August this year and April next.

It also plans to interpret 3,490 meters of 2D data acquired at the South Black Sea section in 2012 in July 2012-June 2013.

Rosneft is looking for a contractor to interpret the seismic, gravity-metric and magnetometric data. Applications to bid at the tender will be accepted until March 13.

Rosneft on November 2 received licenses, which expire in 2040, to prospect, explore and develop five hydrocarbons sections, including South Black Sea. The South Black Sea section's resources are estimated at 296 million tonnes oil equivalent.
