Putin accuses opponents of preparing ballot stuffing to declare voting illegitimate

MOSCOW. Feb 29 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister and presidential candidate Vladimir Putin has charged that his opponents are preparing for ballot stuffing in the upcoming presidential elections so as to have grounds later to declare that the voting was illegitimate.

"We have reasons to presume that our opponents are currently preparing for such actions. I will say it in public now, although there is going to be criticism and demands for proof. Well, in principle, we can produce them," Putin said at a meeting with his campaign members, Popular Front members and political analysts on Wednesday.

"They are preparing to use some mechanisms that would confirm that the elections were falsified. They will stuff ballots themselves, monitor this themselves, and then present this themselves," he said.
