Russian Agriculture Ministry takes 'WTO lessons'

MOSCOW. Feb 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Agriculture Ministry has begun to take 'WTO lessons.'

The ministry's press service said that a WTO study seminar has been opened at the ministry with the involvement of leading foreign experts.

During the three-day course The Regulation of Agricultural Questions in the WTO, representatives of the World Trade Organization and foreign experts will talk about organizational and legal aspects of the organization, the main conditions of the WTO Agreement on Agriculture, and about trade disputes in the WTO.

Experience gained by the United States and European Union in implementing the Agreement will be represented, particularly as involves the rules for market access, special protective provisions, domestic support obligations, and export subsidies.

The seminar is aimed at the discussion of key issues involved in adapting Russian agriculture to WTO rules and procedures, as well as working up recommendations for primary Russian governmental measures for supporting and protecting the country's agriculture in conditions of Russia's membership in the WTO.
