Russia could export 350,000 tonnes of sugar in 2012

MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - Russia could export 350,000 tonnes of sugar this agricultural year.

The country has already shipped 250,000 tonnes abroad and could export another 100,000 tonnes by July 1, Andrei Bodin, CEO of the Union of Russian Sugar Producers, said at a conference on the CIS sugar market in Moscow.

Kazakhstan is a major sugar importer - it is buying 20,000-25,000 tonnes a month on average, Bodin said.

Bodin said new export destinations were being sought and that "the Black Sea corridor had been tested for export to third countries."

Also, "domestic sales have become more attractive" die to higher sugar prices, he said.
