Kazzinc boosts zinc reserves 67%, gold reserves 50%, copper reserves 140%

ALMATY. March 5 (Interfax) - Kazakh metals producer Kazzinc has increased its zinc reserves 67% to 3,374,400 tonnes, its gold reserves 50% to 14.448 million troy ounces, and its copper reserves 140% to 745,300 tonnes, says a statement issued by trading company Glencore, which controls Kazzinc.

The Kazakh company's reserves increased as a result of additional exploration and prospecting operations and study of the deposits Vasilkovskoye (in Akmolinsk Region), and Ridder-Sokolnoye and Maleyevskoye (in East Kazakhstan Region), the statement says.

Gold reserves in the Vasilkovskoye deposit increased by 29% to 9.462 million troy ounces.

Reserves in the Maleyevskoye deposit increased by 88%. Gold reserves rose 214% to 300,000 troy ounces, those of silver by 93% to 37.658 troy ounces, of copper by 100% to 354,500 tonnes, of lead by 77% to 179,100 tonnes, and of zinc by 71% to 1.079 million tonnes.

Reserves in the Ridder-Sokolnoye deposit grew by 94% - of gold by 280% to 2.291 million troy ounces, of silver by 55% to 9.757 million troy ounces, of copper by 250% to 203,100 tonnes, of lead by 39% to 92,300 tonnes, and of zinc by 48% to 199,400 tonnes.

Kazzinc is a major integrated produce of zinc with a large quantity of byproduct copper, precious metals and lead. It operates mainly in the East Kazakhstan region. Glencore holds 50.7% in Kazzinc.
