KMG EP finds jobs for over 2,000 fmr Mangistau region employees
ZHANAOZEN. March 12 (Interfax) - A total of 2,010 former employees of OzenMunayGas, a business unit of JSC KazMunayGas Exploration Production (KMG EP), and JSC Karazhanbasmunay have been offered new jobs in the Mangistau region in western Kazakhstan, said KMG EP Human Resources Director Botagoz Ashirbekova.
"They all have been employed according to their professions," she told journalists Monday in Zhanaozen, a town in the Mangistau region.
Ashirbekova said KMG EP had allocated 20 billion tenge (147.99 tenge/$1) to create jobs for redundant employees of the oil companies in the Mangistau region.
"We still need to decide on the required work scope for them. Currently, we are purchasing machinery and equipment. The process is to be finished by July 1, 2012. KMG EP allocated 20 billion tenge for equipment purchase, new jobs and training courses," she said.
KMG EP organized two companies to employ the redundant workers: a transport company called Transport and Well Servicing Business Unit LLP in Aktau, the administrative center of the region; and a drilling company called Drilling and Well Servicing Business Unit LLP in Zhanaozen.
Some employees of OzenMunayGas went on a strike in May 2011. They were joined by the employees of Karazhanbasmunay and its subsidiaries, ArgymakTransService and TulparMunayService, who demanded pay rises. Some of the strikers were laid off for taking part in the unauthorized industrial actions.
Rioting broke out in the towns of Zhanaozen and Shetpe in West Kazakhstan on December 16-17 in which 15 people died and over 100 were injured.
