Rogozin vows to stand up for Belarus amid tighter EU sanctions

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin has promised to support Belarus if it faces tougher sanctions from the European Union.

"I can say only one thing - we will stand up for our Belarusian colleagues," he told journalists after Russian-Belarusian consultations in Moscow on Thursday.

It is more of a matter of "cooperation between the governments" than an issue of military-technological cooperation, Rogozin said.

Today's consultations addressed, among other topics, Russian-Belarusian contacts within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), as well as ways to improve the regulatory framework and technical standards of the Russia-Belarus Union, the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space.

They were attended by Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko, State Defense Industry Union Chairman Sergei Gurulev, Russian Federal Military-Technological Cooperation Service Director Mikhail Dmitriyev and other officials.
