Police search commercial banks as part of money laundering probe

MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - Police have conducted searches at commercial banks' offices as part of a criminal probe into an illegal encashment of 2 billion rubles.

"An organized group has been crushed, suspected of encashing 2 billion rubles in criminal transactions," the chief of the Interior Ministry's Main Economic Security Department, Denis Sugrobov, told the media on Friday.

Thirty searches have been conducted at the suspects' apartments and offices, including in the premises of the commercial banks Master Bank, Zolostbank, Bank Sudostroitelny and Bank Strategiya, he said.

"More than 500 seals have been seized, including the official seals of state agencies, as well as information carriers and other material evidence and documents confirming the suspects' criminal transactions," he said.
