Lithuania, Belarus need constructive dialog on NPP construction - Rosatom
MINSK. March 22 (Interfax) - Russia's State Nuclear Energy Company Rosatom sees no basis for Lithuania's complaints against the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Belarus and hopes that constructive dialog can be established on the issue.
"We believe our Lithuanian colleagues' complaints to be absolutely baseless and lacking in any real justification. We very much hope that Lithuania will move from political statements to normal, constructive dialog," Rosatom's Program Director Sergei Boyarkin told Interfax in an interview.
He added that "dialog needs to be conducted not only with regards to the Belarusian NPP or the Baltic NPP; another project also exists - the Visaginas NPP."
"Indeed, Lithuania takes a strange position of sorts. They say that they will build a plant in Visaginas and that it is safe, whereas the plant in Ostrovets is not safe because Russia and Belarus are building it. This approach seems unconstructive to me, but I hope that our Lithuanian colleagues will change their position and favor normal dialog," Boyarkin said.
