Chinese participation in Belarusian NPP construction not a problem - Rosatom, Atomstroyexport
MINSK. March 22 (Interfax) - Chinese companies' participation in building engineering infrastructure for the Belarusian nuclear power plant (NPP) will not affect the plant's safety, Russian State Nuclear Energy Company Rosatom and CJSC Atomstroyexport said.
"I think that international cooperation is always a good thing. This factor won't affect the plant's safe operations. Only Russian technologies that have been recognized as the safest in the world will be used in the plant's circuit - that is, in the facilities located within the NPP's perimeter," said Valery Limarenko, who is temporarily fulfilling the duties of Atomstroyexport's president.
Rosatom's Program Director Sergei Boyarkin told Interfax in an interview that he sees no problems with foreigner participation, including with regards to Chinese companies building infrastructure for the NPP.
"We are designing our plant in such a way that even if it is fully flooded, all back-up power sources will work. Our area of responsibility is everything located within the plant's perimeter. The design is being carried out so that nothing that occurs outside of this perimeter will be able to affect the secure work of the nuclear blocks," Boyarkin said.
As reported, Belarus plans to bring Chinese companies in to build high-voltage power transmission lines for output from the Belarusian NPP to the country's power system.
