Rosatom boosts uranium output 35% in 2011

MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax) - Rosatom increased production of uranium by 35% in 2011, the head of the state nuclear corporation, Sergei Kiriyenko told reporters on Friday.

"We increased production of natural uranium by 35%," he said.

Rosatom subsidiary OJSC Atomredmetzoloto (ARMZ), which is responsible for managing the corporation's uranium mining assets, consolidated its 51.4% stake in the output of Uranium One in its production results for 2011. Uranium One, one of the largest public uranium miners in the world, increased uranium production by 45% to a record 4,840 tonnes in 2011. ARMZ's share of Uranium One production can therefore be estimated at 2,488 tonnes.

ARMZ does not disclose production figures for the previous year until the publication of its annual report. The company's annual report for 2010 indicates that production that year, including ARMZ's stakes in assets in Kazakhstan and purchase agreements, amounted to 5,173.4 tonnes, while core assets located in Russia produced 3,562.9 tonnes.
