Russian corporate profits soar 24.8% to 824.1 bln rubles in Jan - Rosstat
MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax) - Combined pre-tax earnings at medium and large enterprises (profit less losses) in Russia soared 24.8% year-on-year in January to 824.1 billion rubles, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.
Some 34,600 Russian enterprises made a combined 1.0084 trillion rubles in profit, while 17,800 others incurred losses totaling 184.3 billion rubles.
Companies working in the extractive sector had combined profits falling 16% in January to 127.4 billion rubles. The utilities sector (electricity, gas and water) made 64.5 billion rubles, up 19.5%; and the manufacturing sector - 188.5 billion rubles, up 17.1% from a year previously.
In wholesale and retail trade, automotive transport maintenance, motorcycles, household goods and personal items, combined profits rose 52.9% to 282.2 billion rubles. They rose 39.8% to 129.2 billion rubles in transport and communications, 53.8% to 9.9 billion rubles in real estate, 60.5% to 8.7 billion rubles in agriculture and 18.9% to 3.1 billion rubles in fisheries; and fell 90.3% to 400 million rubles in construction.
The share of Russian enterprises that incurred losses was down 3.1 percentage points compared to January 2011 at 34%.
