Gazprom to offer realistic price for DEPA

GEOLOG, Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district. April 9 (Interfax) - Gazprom has made a preliminary offer to buy the Greek gas monopoly DEPA, Gazprom Deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev told the press on Saturday.

He did not rule out that the Greek market may double, if the entire European market revives.

"We have made the bid and hope to pass the qualification. We intend to offer a realistic price. We have no intention of overpaying," he said.

Medvedev said that Gazprom has no plans of buying DESFA gas transporting company. He added that he does not fear it that if Gazprom competitors get hold of it, the new owner will obstruct the South Stream project in Greece.

"It would be a crime," he said.

In Q1 Greece as well as Turkey bought more gas than implied by the contract. The Turkish gas market continues to grow as Botas state-owned corporation carries on its gasification plans.

Previously the Greek press estimated the price of DEPA at 1 billion euro.
