Kirienko tells coworkers he will not leave Rosatom

MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - The general director of Russia's state nuclear power corporation Rosatom, Sergei Kirienko, is not planning to leave the company, he said during a meeting with Rosatom employees.

The Rosatom corporate newsletter Strana Rosatom reports that Kirienko announced this during 'information day' on April 18.

Asked if he would accept a post in the cabinet of ministers, Kirienko said no-one had suggested anything yet, and all talk of his transfer is nothing more than rumor. "Do I want to leave for somewhere else? No. Rosatom has come a long way in recent years, but has not reached a point of no return. For the transformation of a former ministry into a global company needs another three to five years. And I will do all that is required of me to get this done. This is my position, known to all. Might they call me in and make an offer that cannot be refused? I have a lot of political experience, I know how it goes. But I'm not going anywhere," he said.

Rumors Kirienko might join the cabinet of ministers have been circulating since spring began. Kirienko has headed Rosatom since December of 2007. He had held various posts in the cabinet from 1997 until becoming prime minister in April of 1998.
