Belarusian, Russian, Kazakh railways to create joint logistics company in 2012 - minister

MINSK. May 3 (Interfax) - The railways of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan will create a joint logistics company in 2012, Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Ivan Shcherbo told journalists in Minsk on Thursday.

"As of today, the logistics company is in the stages of formation," he said.

"At my level, the ministerial level, the relevant decision has been made. I think it will start to work by the end of the year," Shcherbo said.

In February, President of OJSC Russian Railways (RZD) Vladimir Yakunin said that the railways of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus are discussing the creation of a unified container operator.

"One of the main aspects regarding railroads in which all three sides are interested is container trains. It's extremely important to create a special logistics company responsible for container movement through at least three countries," he said.

Yakunin has also proposed establishing a logistics operator for through transshipment throughout Russia on the basis of the Council on Transsiberian Transportation.
