Aktau seaport handles 3.5% more cargo in January-April

ALMATY. May 4. (Interfax) - The Aktau International Seaport handled 3.754 million tonnes of cargo in January-April 2012, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%, the company said.

Transshipment of crude oil and oil products in March declined 13.6% to 2.482 million tonnes, that of metal products 4.3% to 497,000 tonnes.

The handling of grain in the reporting period jumped 12.3-fold to 248,000 tonnes and that of bulk cargo rose 8.7% to 419,000 tonnes.

The Aktau seaport is located on the Mangyshlak peninsula. It is of strategic importance to Kazakhstan, being the country's only seaport.
