Ukrainian bank assets up 2.2% in Jan-April

KYIV. May 12 (Interfax) - The assets of Ukrainian banks amounted to UAH 1.08 trillion on May 1 2012, the National Bank of Ukraine reported on its website.

Assets stood at UAH 1.06 trillion at the end of 2011, so they increased 2.2% in January-April.

Overall assets (including provisions and inter-branch turnover) went up 1.7% in the four months to UAH 1.23 trillion (dropping 0.3% in April).

Loan operations accounted for 67.4% of overall assets (68% at the start of the year) and investment in securities amounted to 7.9% (7.2%).

Equity slid 0.6% (up 0.3% in April) to UAH 160 billion. "Equity was UAH 160 billion, or 14.8% of bank liabilities. Paid-in registered charter capital was UAH 175.3 billion," the National Bank of Ukraine said.

Commitments stood at 921.8 billion, including UAH 332.3 billion in retail deposits, 171 billion in corporate deposits and 165.3 billion in interbank loans and deposits.

Term deposits amounted to UAH 255.7 billion, or 76.9% of retail deposits and demand deposits totaled UAH 76.6 billion, or 23.1%.

There were 176 banks with banking licenses on April 30 2012, the National Bank reported.
